This guide will tell you step by step on how to prepare for a good gathering run.
Opening it with B on your keyboard you follow the blue lines to the various gathering proficiency.
There are the following gathering proficiencies (main biome):
Click on any skill you wish to unlock.
You see the line at the green arrow? Once your Experience reached this line (around 20% of the total) you can unlock / level it up by clicking on the highlighted red "Learn" button for the learning points displayed. Unlocking a new skill will cost you a lot. So save up your points before.
Open the world map ( M on your keyboard) and klick on any biome you want to go for.
You will see detailed map of the zone. Check the top right corner. You will see the resources and what tiers you can find in three. (green mark)
You will also see the chance of finding enchanted resources. (red mark) Hover with your mouse over it for details.
In the picture we see Dusklight Fen, a blue zone.
It is a Swamp Zone, so Fiber will be the main resource. You will also find Wood and Animals to skin. As well as waterways that can spawn fishing spots.
So instead of bringing everything with you, you just want to bring the right gear for the zone. In this case I would bring full Fiber Harvester Gear, highest Sickle I can wield, a Lumber Axe a Skinning knife and maybe a fishing rod. The rest of my gear I can leave at home.
At the time you unlocked T4 of any proficiency you can us the harvesting gear of it. As you can see in the picture you have different tiers of armor you can wear, backpacks that take the spot of the cape and tools.
The different tiers of armor will provide various boni to gathering the resources they are meant for. But only up to the tier you are currently wearing. The backpack reduces the weight significantly, so you can carry more.
Example
If I wear a T4 set, I will only get the harvesting bonus for T2-T4. Gathering a T5+ resource, is unaffected by it.
You don't need to equip the tool. It is enough to have it in your inventory.
These tools provide you with an additional bonus, but require avalonian energy to be crafted. They cost more and are more expensive to repair. I do not recommend using them unless you are a seasoned gatherer.
Any form of pies are the gatherers choice. They give you a bonus to gathering and add some weight you can carry.
If you have laborers go get some books of the main resource you will gather and fill them. Bring them back to your laborers and you will get additional resources over time.
If you run close to your own factions city, always flag up. Gathering contributes to the faction standing and gives you coins which you can exchange for the faction warfare chests and other nice things.
Now you are safe to run blue and yellow zones.
A second screen and a good streaming account makes gathering in safe zones much more enjoyable. 😉
Despite running under the same rules like any other biome zone, the full loot zones provide an extra challenge: Enemy players.
In red zones, the number of enemy players are displayed on the bottom right corner, near the mini map. If there are no players, feel free to gather away. But be careful, this number can change at any time. If it does, leave and return later again.
In there you don't see the number as in the red zones. So keep your ears sharp and your eyes on your surroundings and on the mini map.
You will see blobs, treasures, cores and so on. Stay away unless you are sure you can escape if they are used as bait / traps.
If you dismount and have a ❗ mark above your head, don't gather, there is an enemy nearby.
In game sound is your friend as you can hear most skills before they hit you. For example an enemy player sprinting at you.
Get some PvP-Friends and be the bait for them. You gather the resources, they kill wannabe gankers around you. And all have fun in the process.
