DIG hosts a monthly Game of the Month (GOTM, pronounced got-em
) series, where we choose a recreational game to play as a community.
This event is announced to the entire community via @everyone
to ensure we get the highest participation. This is a twice a month ping maximum (one for the vote, one for the event). Everyone who signs up to the event is added to a special role which is then pinged to communicate the event itself.
Games that feature large group gameplay such as the games listed further below that can be played either as a large group together or a set of sub-groups all on the same server.
Games that are squad based e.g. Darktide, SQUAD, Battlefield, Helldivers etc are not accepted in the format, as there are restrictions on how many people can play together in that setting, which is punishing to those who don't get the slots streight away. This event is designed to be inclusive.
Currently, the games compatible with the format are:
- Eco
- Factorio
- Foxhole
- Guild Wars 2
- Minecraft (modded, if voted another vote will be done for modpack selection)
- Palworld
- Pax Dei
- Planetside 2
- Satisfactory
- Stellaris (modded, if voted another vote for mod selections will be held)
- Valheim
Have a game you think would be compatable with this format? Offer it as a suggestion for a new Rec Game.
- On every second Saturday of the month roughly in the evening, one of two things happen:
- Maelstrome picks a game arbitarily (as the event owner he has the right to do this), based on community feedback or current circumstances where there's been a new release of a game etc.
- A poll is held to choose the game to play, out of the games compatible with the format. This is announced to
@everyone
to ensure people get to have their say.
- On every third Tuesday, the vote concludes and the game is chosen.
- If there is a tie, Maelstrome will choose the winner rather than doing a re-count. We've done this before and it takes way too long and it gets annoying with the pings.
- With the result chosen, an event is set up for the third Saturday @ 18:00 UTC, which is announced to
@everyone
again for inclusivity.
- A text and voice channel is then made dedicated to the event. Further announcements / discussions surrounding the event will be issued there.
- The event is operated and concludes either on the day, or depending on the game, may continue for a duration (usually a week).
- Repeat for next month.
